Foods to Buy
There are always exciting new foods coming onto the market, but sometimes one has to wait for things to hit local stores and it can be easy to forget what at one time seemed so worth seeking out. This ever-evolving list of interesting sounding foods is meant to help remember.
- Paul A Young Fine Chocolate. Per Chuck, I must “implore/beg/plead any friends heading to London” to bring me some back. No contest in head to head comparison with Kee’s chocolates and a few others. If only I could figure out how to get my hands on some.
Charles Chocolates. Added 3/15/06 per Cooking with Amy. Sampled the new teach chocolates, bars, and wine pate de fruits at a very enjoyable press tasting. Writeup still in progress.Honest Tea Gold Rush Cinnamon. Added 1/30/06. Tried 2/06. I love many of Honest Tea’s other flavors, but I OD’ed on cinnamon at some point and developed a mild disstaste for it as the primary or dominant flavor, so this isn’t quite my cup o’ tea.- Stan’s Doughnuts. Added 1/06
- Steaz Green Tea Soda
Mentioned in some food magazine writeup that I now can’t find on the new generation of sodas, as well as in this Wall Street Journal article. Added 1/06. - Mashti Malone’s Persian Ice Creams
Highlighted at the ‘06 Fancy Foods Show by Gastronomie. Added 1/06. Palapa Azul frozen Mexican juice treats.
Discovered through 101 Cookbooks’ Fancy Food Show Writeup. Added 1/06.
Bought a Mango Chili bar at Whole Foods. Though definitely a frozen juice, not a sorbet (read, not smooth and creamy), and the flavor is really intriguing, almost addictive, it’s also a little weird and not for everyone. Surprisingly salty too. Bought 1/06.Satura Cakes
Recommended by Chuck in the Comments. Impressive, especially for a Peninsula Bakery. I will definitely be sampling more things at their closer-by Palo Alto or Los Altos locations. First tried 3 cream puff flavors from the Los Altos Farmer’s Market stand a block from their store in 5/06.
