In my first and only trip to Peninou, they lost a blouse (worn only once and they only offered 50% compensation) and ruined black linen slacks (refused to even send a claim form). Even worse is their Customer Service attitude (2 separate people in the store at least acknowledged that the slacks looked beat up).

Huge oversight in leaving out the chocolate category - now fixed. Thanks!

I'm not a runner and have generally left the exercise category out in this guide because it depends so much on preference, schedule, and convenience, but I do like Chrissy Field.

I usually go to American Tire on the Peninsula, but to anyone looking for tires in SF, you're in good hands with car-related recommendations from Chuck.

i suppose essentails is a subjective term, but how about:

Chocolates - Richart
Chocolate Bars & Magazines - Fog City News
Running - Crissy Fields
Fish (Sushi-quality or for cooking) - Yum Yum
Tires - Robert's Wheel & Tire
